Mystery animal washes up on beach

MONTAUK Debate is raging over what kind of animal washed ashore at the beach, an animal some are now calling the Montauk Monster.

East Hampton officials say the carcass was found on the sand by some beachgoers in Montauk last week.

The town's natural resources director says it appears to be a raccoon with its lower jaw missing. He says it may have been in the water for up to six days.
