A 911 call about an armed robbery in Galveston led police to a murder investigation. They found a clerk shot inside a convenience store along the busy Seawall Boulevard.

Galveston police tell us capital murder charges have been filed against four suspects. The man who allegedly shot the store clerk is being held without bond.

Often robbery-murders like this take a long time to result in an arrest, but this one took just minutes.

Customers at the Citgo store on the Seawall at 45th saw the crime scene tape today and knew something had gone wrong.

"It's just sad," said customer Terry Hart.

Just before 4am the store was robbed. The clerk behind the counter, Abdul Meje, 40, was fatally shot.

There are surveillance cameras in the store, but there was also another employee in the back of the store who called police. Officers got there within 20 minutes.

"We were able to get a perimeter set around the general area," said Sgt. Joel Caldwell of the Galveston Police Department. "A patrol officer by the name of George Simpson saw the suspect vehicle, stopped it on traffic and was able to identify the suspects."

Two 16 year olds, an 18 year old woman and a 33 year old man were arrested. The man, who police believe is the shooter, is from New Orleans they say.

"There was cash recovered from the suspect," Sgt. Caldwell said.

A gun was also recovered, but not in the car.

All four suspects have been charged with capital murder according to Galveston Police. All four are now in Galveston County Jail.
