A deputy constable hit during a shootout in north Harris County remains in critical condition. Corporal Harry Thielepape underwent surgery yesterday. He was working an extra job at an apartment complex near the North Freeway at around 2pm when officials say he pulled over Jesus Reyna for a routine traffic stop.

They say Reyna was cuffed and placed in the deputy's car, but was somehow able to get the deputy's gun and fired several times. Theilepape returned fire.

"There was a gun that was found in the suspect's car, where the deputy had put it on top of the suspect's car while the suspect was already in custody," said Harris County Precinct 6 Constable Victor Trevino.

The suspect was killed. Thielepape was wearing a bullet proof vest, but was seriously wounded.
