Fire erupts at NW Harris County complex -- again
Firefighters are battling a two-alarm blaze at a northwest Harris County apartment complex where another fire broke out nearly a month ago

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- Firefighters say a two-alarm blaze broke out at a northwest Harris County apartment complex where another fire happened nearly a month ago.

The fire happened at Building 13 of the Village of Copperfield Apartments in the 8700 block of Point Park Drive.

One person was transported to a hospital for precautionary reasons, and another was treated at the scene. One firefighter was treated for heat exhaustion but is back at work now.

Two cats also were rescued from a downstairs apartment.

Residents recall the chaotic moments when everyone was trying to evacuate.

"I asked him. You know you're apartment is burning? He was in a daze. I said sir, you need to get out now! He said I need to save some of this... I said no sir. You're life is worth more than this, you need to get out now," resident Joe Zapata said.

Eight of 16 units are inside the building were damaged by the blaze; seven families have been displaced, and the Red Cross is now helping them.

Officials say this is the same complex where a fire broke out in May and a firefighter had fallen through the second floor while battling the flames. Eleven families lost everything in that blaze.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
