Missing 9-month-old at center of Amber Alert found safe

SPRING, TX (KTRK) -- A boy at the center of an Amber Alert has been found safe.

The Amber Alert was issued early Friday morning for nine-month-old Caleb Zachary Hendricks. He had last been seen on Mother's Day, which is when authorities say his father, Zachary Alphonse Hendricks, broke into his home in Spring and took him.

The father does not have legal custody of Caleb.

At a press conference Friday, Precinct 4 Constable Mark Herman said the suspect's mother turned the child in, who was later reunited with his mother.

Herman said Zachary Hendricks remains on the run, but believes he is somewhere in the Houston area.

Though the child was reportedly abducted on Mother's Day, the Amber Alert wasn't issued until Friday morning after Herman said the father made threats.

"It was issued as soon as we got the criteria this morning and it met the criteria of issuing the Amber Alert, we issued the Amber Alert," said Herman, adding that the suspect threatened to kill himself and the child.

The search had taken authorities to Louisiana, where they spoke with Zachary Hendricks' relatives, after leads in the Houston area ran dry.

At this point, it's not clear where the baby was found.
