ABILENE, TX -- Officials say a City of Abilene maintenance worker has died after falling from the top of an about 9-foot tall container he was painting at a city maintenance facility.

Assistant City Manager James Childers says 52-year-old Edward Gonzales died Wednesday. Gonzales suffered a head injury and was taken to the hospital, where he died.

The Abilene Reporter-News reports that Childers said the cause of the accident is unclear and is under investigation.

Childers says, "There's no evidence of foul play. It appears to be consistent with a tragic accident."

Gonzales worked for the city for almost 11 years.
