The morning ended with four men in custody and an SUV ripped to shreds

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- Four males, three of them juveniles, are in custody after police say they committed a string of aggravated robberies, and then led them on a chase.

Houston Police say the suspects carjacked an SUV Tuesday morning, then robbed at least four people at gunpoint.

A convenience store owner had his own gun, and called 911 after scaring off the suspects. That's when police say the four suspects led them on a chase through north Houston. Eventually, police threw down spike strips to stop the SUV.

This comes just one day after an HPD officer was killed deploying the same type of strip.

"We do not know the mindset of the person operating the vehicle," said HPD Senior Officer Ken Nealy. "We can only try to successfully deploy the spike strips to stop a vehicle, disable the vehicle."

Police are still trying to determine if the group is responsible for other armed robberies in the area.
