7-year-old girl writes Hillary Clinton

MADISON, WI (KTRK) -- A 7-year-old girl from Madison wanted to change her name from Lilly to Lillary, all to support her presidential candidate.

But Hillary Clinton had an inspiring way of telling Lilly to be her own person in a letter that's unlike any other.

"Dear Lilly, I received the terrific message," the letter from the former Secretary of State read in response to a letter sent to her. "I think Lilly is a great name and you don't have to change it."

But in a bid to one day be president herself, the second grader started calling herself Lillary, well before Clinton replied.

"Don't give in, don't give up... don't quit on yourself," the letter continued.

Lilly's mom, Jennifer Rosen-Heinz, says Hillary's letter gives Lilly a lot to think about.

"That message was just so respectful, but it was also developmentally appropriate. It was the right message for a 7 year old girl," Rosen-Heinz said.

Lilly's letter didn't arrive until September 19th but it was dated as being written on September 10th, a time when Hillary probably need a boost as she fought walking pneumonia.

"The fact that this message got to her, that it meant something to her just as it meant something to my daughter, it meant something to Hillary too," Rosen-Heinz added.

WKOW reports that the letter taught Lilly to have a bright and colorful future.

"That you don't have to change your name to be the second woman president," she said.
