Former Astros All-Star Lance Berkman has resigned from his job as head coach for a high school baseball team in Houston.

Berkman, 43, coached Second Baptist for four years and won a Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools state title in his first season.

Berkman told Fox 26 in Houston he would like to coach again, particularly in the college ranks.

"If I ever got another opportunity somewhere I would feel very prepared," he said. "... I definitely see that for sure in my future. I don't know at what level, where that would be. I really feel a strong pull to the college level, but as you know those opportunities are few and far between."

The school hired Rayner Noble, who coached the University of Houston for 16 years, to replace Berkman.
