Volunteers find human head in trash bag in Lake Houston
HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- The Houston Police Department said a human head was found by volunteers near Lake Houston Saturday morning.
"They were cleaning up the bridge. They were starting to pick up trash and when she picked up the bag, the bag was heavy and she couldn't get it with her little tongs and so when she picked it up she could see the human hair," said Roger Randall, a volunteer who helped with the Lake Houston event.
Houston Police Department marine patrol officers were flagged down by witnesses who found a black trash bag by volunteers who were picking up trash along the bridge around 10:00 a.m. in the 11000 block of FM 1960 East.
Detectives believe the victim was killed possibly two weeks ago.
Investigators told Eyewitness News that they believe someone threw the trash bag over the bridge, aiming for the water, and missed.
Police say the victim appeared to be a white or Hispanic female between the ages of 20 and 45 years old.
An anthropologist at the Harris County Medical Examiner's Office is working to create an anthropological profile, which will provide an approximate age and ancestry. They hope to have that report available later this week.
Detectives with the Houston Police Department are looking into missing persons cases, not just in Houston, but also in Harris County, Montgomery County and Liberty County.
