Former HISD employee charged with sexual assault of a child
HOUSTON (KTRK) -- A former Houston ISD employee has been charged with sexual assault of a child after an investigation, the district said.
Mauricio Mendoza was arrested Monday and is accused of inappropriate conduct with a student while he worked at Hartman Middle School.
According to charging documents, Mendoza had sex with a victim under the age of 14 around Dec. 13.
In a statement, HISD said the allegations were first reported to school officials in December as well.
"The administration also notified HISD Police and Children's Protective Services (CPS) of the allegation. Police conducted a lengthy and thorough investigation, which they concluded this month. Police presented findings from their investigation to the Harris County District Attorney's Office, which accepted criminal charges," the district said in a statement.
Mendoza is no longer employed with HISD. He is being held on a $50,000 bond.
