HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- Emergency closures are underway on I-610 North Loop and I-69 Eastex Freeway after a tanker crashed on the overpass on Monday.
At about 10:40 a.m., a tanker of some type was seen dangling off the North Loop overpass above the southbound lanes of the Eastex Freeway.
It's not clear what caused the dramatic situation and it's not yet confirmed if there are any injuries.
Traffic is heavy in the area, and the investigation has completely blocked the southbound lanes of the Eastex Freeway.
TxDOT announced the emergency closures about four hours after the crash.
"To facilitate necessary emergency bridge repairs on I-610 North Loop eastbound at I-69 Eastex Freeway, there are several closures in place beginning Monday, Oct. 7, until further notice due to a heavy truck incident," TxDOT said.
The closures are as follows:
Motorists will detour by continuing eastbound on I-610 North Loop to the I-69 direct connectors.
Motorists will detour by continuing northbound on I-69 to the I-610 North Loop eastbound.
The I-69 Eastex Freeway southbound at I-610 North Loop has two right main lanes closed.
