What you might not have known about Carlos Correa
HOUSTON (KTRK) -- When you see Carlos Correa in his home land of Puerto Rico, it all makes sense with the way he carries himself and the way he goes about his business.
Last December, we brought you the story of Correa's first ever golf tournament. The tournament helped children with their medical expenses.
"The goal is not to just be great on the field, but to be great outside the field," Correa said. "And that's what I focus on. Try to be great and help other people while I can."
The 21-year-old phenom comes from humble beginnings. At a young age, Correa helped his father at various construction sites because his family always had to fight for every dollar. He says in order for him to play baseball he needed help from others with his trips and scouts to watch him play.
Life would get harder for Correa and his family after Hurricane George destroyed his home in 1998.
"Yea we started all over, we got a new house by the government, we started building new things in the house, the house is bigger now, but that's because of what my dad and I did," he said.
In the midst of it all, Correa always circles back to his family.
"That's the way they raised me, they tried to be at every single game, even though they had my mother and sister," Correa added. "They go out to Houston every time they can and they enjoy watching me play and we are very close, we do everything together when we are here."
