HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- One person is dead after a shooting Friday night at a gas station in southwest Houston.

The victim asked to stop at the gas station on South Gessner to purchase a beverage before going home, Gilbert Padino said.

Padino, who is the victim's cousin, said after he walked out the store a man started arguing with him.

"I heard the guy say, 'You're in the wrong territory,'" Padino said. "The next I saw was my cousin getting shot three times in the chest."

Padino said he thought he might be shot as well, but he got out of the car, cradled his cousin and started to apply pressure to the wound.

"I kept telling him to hold on," he said.

The 31-year-old warehouse worker was still alive when the ambulance arrived, but he was pronounced dead soon after arriving at the hospital.

"It appears the suspect is a Hispanic male wearing a red hoodie and two Hispanic females in the car, including the driver and passenger," HPD homicide detective D. Crowder said.

Padino said he didn't know the shooter and doesn't believe his cousin did either.

The victim worked at a warehouse, but had plans to return to the oil and gas industry.

"He was a good guy full of love," said Pandino. "I don't know how to tell his little girl. That's hard, but she has a daddy right here though. I'll have to raise her now."

Anyone with information is asked to contact Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
