ESPN's 2014 Monday Night Football slate will open in Detroit and Glendale, Ariz., for the season-opening Sept. 8 doubleheader as 26 of the league's 32 teams will make an appearance on MNF.
The season's docket will open with the New York Giants at the Detroit Lions and the San Diego Chargers at the Arizona Cardinals on Sept. 8, and in the weeks that follow the Giants, Philadelphia Eagles, Indianapolis Colts, Chicago Bears, New York Jets, Washington Redskins, Pittsburgh Steelers and New Orleans Saints are scheduled to appear twice on Monday night.
The Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks will appear once -- in Week 5 -- when the Seahawks will face the Washington Redskins at FedEx Field. And the AFC Champion Denver Broncos, who have won three consecutive AFC West titles, also will appear once. The Broncos will travel to Paul Brown Stadium to face the Cincinnati Bengals in the Week 16 regular-season finale for MNF.
Among other MNF matchups of note are games between two 2013 playoff teams, including Eagles at Colts in Week 2, New England Patriots at Kansas City Chiefs in Week 4 and Carolina Panthers at Eagles in Week 10.
The following six teams do not have a Monday night game this season -- Buffalo Bills, Cleveland Browns, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Jacksonville Jaguars, Oakland Raiders and Minnesota Vikings.
ESPN has aired Monday Night Football since the 2006 season. MNF was broadcast on ABC between 1970 and 2005.
ESPN signed an eight-year contract extension with the NFL in 2011 and will present the first playoff game aired on a cable network following the 2014 regular season.
