Houston police: Crooks' 'clumsiness' made them more dangerous

HOUSTON

This crime happened on April 13 at 3:10am at the Katz Boutique along the North Freeway.

Investigator Jeff Brieden with the Houston Police Department says in the seven years he's been working on robberies, these are by far some of the 'clumsiest crooks' he has seen in a long time. That's what he says is what makes them so dangerous.

The surveillance video shows three men go into the business. Police say one has a revolver, the other a mini-14 rifle. The one with the rifle bumped into the man with the revolver and the revolver went off. Then spooked, investigators believe the man with the rifle starts shooting indiscriminately on the way out of the store.

"Because of how unpredictable they were during the robbery, discharging their weapons so freely, in any direction, this case could have easily turned into a capital murder," said Brieden.

Police say the three men never even came face to face with store employees. One was in the back and the other was hiding in the back of the store.

The suspects are described only as Hispanic males between 18 to 25 years old.

Anyone with information on the identities of the wanted suspects is urged to contact the HPD Robbery Division at 713-308-0700 or Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
