It happened around 11pm at a Shell convenience store on Wirt Road and Kempwood Drive.
Investigators have been busy reviewing surveillance video from inside the store. Police say it shows two masked men in hoodies barging into the convenience store. They say one of the crooks was carrying a shotgun. The other was waving a pistol around as they entered the store, ambushing the clerks.
Police say it was the suspect with the pistol who shot one clerk in the upper body. Both thieves quickly ran off, leaving the wounded worker behind.
"Upon arrival, they found that one of the store clerks had been shot in the shoulder," said Lt. Larry Crowson with the Houston Police Department. "He was transported to Ben Taub Hospital. He is expected to survive."
Two other employees inside the store were not hurt.
Store customer Joy Johal says she's not surprised, saying a similar robbery happened to her last week while she was managing a gas station on Highway 290 and Hollister.
"Three guys came running in with guns. Give me all of the money, give me all of the money give me all of the money. I followed the store procedures, and thank God nobody was hurt," she said.
Right now police are still trying to determine whether the robbers got away with any cash or property. They're urging anyone with leads on the thieves to call Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
