Deputy shoots armed man in northeast Harris County

HOUSTON

It happened around 4pm at a home in the 17000 block of Scuttle Way.

Deputies were called out to the house by the Harris County Mental Health Department to check on the welfaare of the 47-year-old man and his mother. When deputies arried, the mother told them her son was armed with a gun.

Her son left the home through the back of the house and when deputies chased him outside into the yard, he turned around and pointed his weapon at the deputies. That's when a deputy opened fire, striking the man.

The suspect was transported in critical condition to Memorial Hermann Hospital via LifeFlight.

HCSO confirms they were engaged in a SWAT scene with the same man at the same home back in 2012.

The deputy has been placed on paid administrative leave, as is customary with officer-involved shootings.

An investigation is ongoing.
