Congratulations to our colleague Art Rascon. He was honored with a lifetime achievement award Saturday night.

Art received the award from the Houston Association of Hispanic Media Professionals at a reception at the Hyatt Regency. His co-anchor, Melanie Lawson, introduced him on stage.

"I don't feel old enough to receive a lifetime achievement award," said Art. "I have much to live for still. But it's a tremendous honor and it is only because I think I share it with so many others involved in this industry who attempt every day to get out there and get their story and get it right and serve the public as a result."

"He's had an incredible career as a reporter and an anchor, but more importantly than that, he's just such a wonderful person," said his co-anchor of Life at Five, Melanie Lawson. "And I'm really proud of him."

Art says he's also proud that tonight's event is a fundraiser for the association. The group gives $30,000 in scholarships every year to aspiring journalists.
