Suspect killed in home invasion in N. Harris Co.

HOUSTON

It happened today a little before 1pm inside a third floor unit at the Dominion Park apartments on Dominion Park Drive near Whispering Pines. Deputies say two suspects forcibly entered the home and were confronted by a resident.

"I heard the gunshots and it kind of scared me," said neighbor Valeria Nunn. "I thought someone was shooting in the street."

But the gunfire was confined to that apartment. Investigators say the young man who lived there heard people trying to break in, so he got out his gun and was ready.

"He armed himself," said Sgt. Robert Spurgeon with the Harris County Sheriff's Office. "The individuals forced the door open, at which time he began shooting at the suspects. One suspect was killed on the scene. The other suspect fled the scene."

The young man living in the apartment wasn't hurt. Soon, investigators, family and friends came to the scene, including a woman who said she's the shooter's mother.

"Terrified," she said. "Trying to see how my son's doing."

As for the suspect who fled, police haven't' arrested anyone but they do have a lead.

"Somebody showed up at a hospital, but we don't know if he's involved in this or not," said Sgt. Spurgeon.

The person who showed up at the hospital was suffering from a gunshot wound. We'll post any new details here as they become available.
