Witnesses help police find hit-and-run suspect in NW Harris County

HOUISTON

The accident happened on a busy stretch of FM 1960 near Perry a little before 9:30am. Sheriff's deputies say the driver was traveling in a single line of traffic at close to 40 miles an hour when he hit a 26-year-old cyclist.

The driver, a man in his early 60s, did not stop, but witnesses were able to get his license plate number, which helped investigators track the driver to his home.

"One of our K-9 officers was able to locate that vehicle at its residence," said a responding deputy. "The driver was still in the truck and he appeared to be unresponsive in the driver's seat."

That driver was arrested on suspicion of DWI and faces charges of intoxication assault.

The man he hit was airlifted to the hospital in serious condition.
