Knowledge, books and skills won't be the only items teachers will be packing in one North Texas school district next school year.

CNN reports that Bonham ISD is getting ready to arm a select group of trained and vetted of teachers, coaches and administrators as part of the district's defender program.

In addition, each classroom, office and school bus will have a Mace gun.

More than 80 staff members applied for the district's defender program, which will have a startup cost of about $60,000 with annual maintenance fees at about $15,000.

It's expected to be up and running by August.
