SWAT standoff in Kingwood ends with two robbery suspects in custody

KINGWOOD, TX

The first robbery was reported at a Walgreen's on Kingwood Drive just before 7pm. A caller reported the robbers were two males in a silver pickup. Just 20 minutes later, a CVS on Kingwood Dr. reported a robbery by a man armed with a pistol. The same vehicle was described.

The description went out over police radio, and that's when officers located the truck at a residence in the 2300 block of Plateau Court at Pinnacle.

Two suspects ran out of the back door, officials said. One of them surrendered, but the other ran back into the house and barricaded himself inside.

SWAT officers tried to negotiate with the suspect, but they said that didn't work. They reportedly then tried to motivate him to leave with tear gas.

"There were some devices -- some less-than-lethal devices -- that were used, including some tear gas that was used in an effort to try to get the suspect to come out of the residence," Houston Police Department spokesperson Victor Senties said. "He did not want to comply; he did not want to exit, so there were some less-than-lethal means used that did include gas canisters."

Around midnight, the officers entered the house. Police found the suspect hiding in a bedroom, and he surrendered.

One officer suffered a minor injury from a SWAT K-9, but no other injuries were reported.

A neighbor said the men kept unusual hours.

"They've always been up at weird hours," Jake Sebren said. "I work at a coffee shop, so I'm usually up early -- at like 4 or at 5 -- and they were always up with the garage door open, so I always thought it was kind of strange."
