Man charged in alleged 2013 road rage crash that killed mom, two-year-old son

HOUSTON

Emil McMahon, of Crosby, faces two counts of intoxication manslaughter in connection to the deadly September 29 crash off FM 1942 near Garth Road.

According to the Harris County Sheriff's Office, witnesses told investigators that McMahon was going about 72 miles per hour when he crossed into oncoming traffic and crashed into a car carrying 27-year-old Tania Vercher, and her 2-year-old son, Alejandro Vercher. Both were killed in the wreck.

Detectives later learned that McMahon had gotten into a fight with his wife earlier that day and allegedly was trying to run her and their 1-year-old off the road when his car collided with Vercher's.

McMahon was treated for injuries at a hospital, where he his blood was drawn for laboratory testing. According to court records, results of those blood tests revealed he had been under the influence of drugs when the crash took place.
