Family, dog escape from southeast Houston house fire

A family of three and their dog were able to safely escape after their southeast Houston home caught fire early this morning.

It happened around 3:30am on Hastings near Ithaca.

Tony Trejo says he awoke to go to the restroom, but he smelled smoke.

Trejo says he followed the smell to figure out what was on fire.

"When I went to the attic, I see a lot of fire, so I think, 'This thing is serious,'" Trejo said.

Firefighters arrived and saw smoke pouring from the roof. They say there was extensive damage to the home, but no injuries were reported.

The cause remains under investigation, but officials tell us an electrical glitch may be to blame.
