Escaped inmate asks motel owner to call police on him

LEXINGTON, KY

According to TV station WLEX, Robert Vick left the Blackburn Correctional Institute and spent a few days on the lam. That is, until he asked a motel owner to call police on him.

"He was shivering," said motel manager Maurice Fugate. "He was really cold."

Police say he broke into an abandoned farm house, stole clothes and slept there. He went to the motel asking for help .

"He said, 'Can you call the law on me?' said motel manager Maurice King. "And I kind of looked at him. I thought he was crazy or something."

So King called police.

"I don't even think the dispatcher believed me," King said.

But moments later, an ambulance and police showed up and took Vick to the University of Kentucky hospital.
