Police say they believe a man is targeting women walking in the area. So far, there have been three different victims who have had their phones and purses taken.
Police believe the person responsible is from this general area because he's able to make a quick escape.
They say everyone in area needs to be alert, especially if they're walking
"We're finding out that in these cases people are distracted by either being on the phone or not paying attention to their surroundings," said Edward Cavazos with the UT Houston Police Department. "And this is what's creating opportunity for this person to come in and steal their items and leave."
HPD is investigating, as are UT police because students are involved and it's happening close to their campus.
