Courtroom renamed to honor late district attorney

HOUSTON

The STAR Court courtroom will become the Mike Anderson Memorial Courtroom in a dedication ceremony today at 2pm. STAR stands for Success Through Addiction Recovery.

Anderson, who was a STAR Court judge before being elected DA, passed away earlier this year at the age of 57 after a battle with cancer.

Governor Rick Perry appointed Mike Anderson's widow Devon as DA after his passing.

"Mike had a passion for helping people and believed in giving people second chances. As a judge he would send offenders in need of rehabilitation and treatment to STAR court, even when they thought they didn't need it," said DA Anderson.

The STAR drug court program treats non-violent, repeat drug offenders to reduce the costs of continuing drug abuse and possible future crimes.
