San Antonio police say no officers were hurt in Wednesday night's incident.
Investigators say the 53-year-old man approached two officers as they reached an apartment. Authorities say the man threatened police and was shot when he allegedly lunged at an officer.
The man died later at a San Antonio hospital. His name wasn't immediately released.
Police say the officer who opened fire will be put on administrative duty during a review of the incident.
