HCSO: Wreck, officer-involved shooting leaves teen dead in NW Harris County

HOUSTON

Investigators with the Harris County homicide division say the incident began when a Navasota police officer, who lives and works security at a complex off Park Point Drive and Highway 6, saw what he called suspicious activity inside a car. He said he approached the car and the driver threw it into reverse, hitting him.

"Tried to flee, pinning the (officer) between two cars. The (officer) discharged his weapon several times. The suspect fled into the apartment complex and ran into a parked vehicle," said Sgt. Greg Pinkins with the Harris County Sheriff's Office.

The driver, 17-year-old Jonathen Anthony Santellana, died at the hospital. A female passenger was not injured. Jonathen's family tells Eyewitness News that doctors say he died from a single gunshot wound to the back that went through his heart and lungs. His loved ones have many unanswered questions, as the investigation continues.
