Employee shot while chasing northeast Houston store robbers

HOUSTON

It happened at a store in the 9600 block of Jensen near Bennington.

Houston police say three to four suspects entered a supermarket, went over to the check-cashing station and took an undisclosed amount of cash. The suspects left the store and an employee ran out after them with a long metal pole, and bashed out a window in their getaway truck.

That's when the suspects opened fire, striking the employee.

The suspects fled the scene, but ditched their getaway pickup a couple of blocks away. Police say their weapons and some clothes were still inside the vehicle.

Investigators believe the suspects took off in a second vehicle.

Witnesses say the employee was having trouble breathing but it wasn't too long before emergency personnel arrived at the scene and transported him to a hospital. We still don't know his condition.
