Members of the Florida chapter of the Houston-based Armed Citizen Project began advertising the program in the Sunshine Gardens neighborhood near Orlando, Fla.
The neighborhood is about 25 miles from Sanford, where neighborhood watch volunteer George Zimmerman killed Trayvon Martin, an unarmed 17-year-old. Zimmerman, who says he fired in self-defense, and was cleared of charges in Martin's death.
Ron Ritter with the Armed Citizen Project of Florida said Wednesday that the donated guns will be available through participating dealers or gun shops. The new owners must pass a background check and complete gun safety training.
