A League City family is trying to figure out what sparked a fire that ripped through their home. Flames broke out around 6am at a home on Rustic Oak near West Bay Area Boulevard.

The fire heavily damaged the roof of the home, even causing part of it to cave in.

Firefighters say the blaze appears to have started in the garage and then spread to the rest of the home. Neighbors say they heard loud "booms" then raced to help the family.

Neighbor Mark McClure said, "They had just recently arrived back from vacation. So we didn't know whether they were fully back, and whether the children were in the house. Simultaneously my other neighbor and I went over to make sure that everyone was out of the house."

Firefighters say there were some guns in the house, but the heat did not reach the area where they were stored. Investigators are looking into what started the fire.
