Mysterious sticky slime rises from streets in Brooklyn

NEW YORK

The New York City Fire Department posted a message on Twitter saying, "a large amount of a thick unknown substance arising from the street."

But the slime didn't eat any Brooklynites. Turns out the gooey stuff wasn't all that mysterious.

Firefighters traced the problem to broken water line. Underground erosion caused an electrical cable to burst. It was the cable's sticky, stinky coolant that seeped up to the street.
