The envelope was received in today's mail at Houston ISD's Franklin Elementary School on Canal Street, according to an HISD spokesperson. The envelope has not been opened, so it hasn't been determined if there is a substance of any kind inside.
Houston Fire Department and HazMat were called to the scene around 9am.
HISD protocol is that when anyone sees an envelope that raises suspicions, they call law enforcement without opening it.
Classes continue to be held without interruption.
