Person of interest sought in string of crimes

HOUSTON

More than two dozen break-ins -- mostly of vehicles -- have been reported in the New Territory area in less than a week's time.

Investigators hope someone recognizes the guy who has broken into garages and cars in New Territory. They say he needs to get caught before someone gets hurt.

A surveillance camera inside a snack bar near the Club at New Territory shot pictures on March 26. The man, investigators say, is a person of interest they want to talk to about a rash of burglaries in the neighborhood over five days last week.

Dave Cole is among the victims. Someone rummaged through his unlocked garage and his wife's vehicle early Saturday.

"Someone was awful brazen to go all the way up the driveway and into the garage," Cole said.

They didn't take anything. As many as two dozen cases just like this were reported to the sheriff's office last week -- someone rifling through an unlocked car in a driveway or an unlocked garage, taking radar detectors, GPS units and in one case beer. Sometimes nothing was taken at all.

A map shows how many times the suspect struck, seemingly going door to door just looking for opportunity. Investigators hope someone recognizes him.

Det. Robert Williams with the Fort Bend County Sheriff's Office said, "We are concerned. Obviously it makes the residents nervous. They can't feel safe in their homes."

If you recognize the person of interest, call Crime Stoppers at 281-342-TIPS. A $5,000 reward is being offered.
