Suspect fatally shot by Montgomery County Sheriff's Office deputy after low-speed chase in The Woodlands

THE WOODLANDS, TX

It happened around 2:45am in the 600 block of Sawdust Road near Grogan Mill in The Woodlands.

Sheriff's deputies say 44-year-old Gregory Allen Bridges of Spring was involved in a hit-and-run accident on Highway 242.

Texas Department of Public Safety troopers radioed in a description of the car -- a black Kia -- after the crash. A sheriff's deputy caught up with a short time later and tried to pull Bridges over, but they said he refused, driving on at about 30mph.

"At an intersection in The Woodlands, the vehicle was spiked and tires were deflated, however the vehicle still failed to stop," MCSO Lt. Dan Norris said.

Deputies said Bridges finally pulled into a parking lot behind a CVS Pharmacy on Sawdust Road, and then he circled the parking lot twice.

One deputy was out of his vehicle when the car reportedly turned toward him.

"At one point, that vehicle started driving toward one of the deputies," Norris said. "The deputy discharged his firearm at least three times, we believe. Struck the suspect at least one time in the upper chest."

Bridges was rushed to a nearby hospital where he died from his injuries.

We're told the deputy involved in the shooting has been on the force for about a year. He's been placed on administrative leave until he is ready to return to duty.

MCSO is investigating the shooting along with the Texas Rangers and district attorney's office.
