The accident happened around 9:30am on Thompson and East Houston. According to GCISD spokesperson Kathy Clausen, the bus driver had just dropped off elementary school students when she apparently failed to yield the right of way, hit a pickup truck and then slammed into a telephone pole.
The sheriff's department confirmed the pickup truck driver was taken by Life Flight to Memorial Hermann Hospital with injuries. The extent of the injuries is unknown at this time. The bus driver was taken San Jacinto Methodist by ambulance and was conscious and alert.
Clausen said this is the bus driver's first driving infraction. It's unclear if the bus will get a ticket.
