'Smokesax' dismantled outside Billy Blues Restaurant in Galleria area

HOUSTON

The giant blue saxophone known as "Smokesax" has sat outside of Billy Blues Restaurant and Bar in the Galleria area for the past 20 years. The bar has since gone out of business and arrangements were made to move the artwork piece by piece. It's being hauled to the Orange Show Center for Visionary Art in southeast Houston.

The saxophone is made of old car parts, oil field pipes, a surfboard and an entire Volkswagon Beetle at its base. Artist Bob Wade says it's still in great shape.

The Smokesax will sit in a warehouse until they decide the best place to put it on display.
