It happened shortly after 5am Sunday at the Westwood Square apartment complex on Gulfton near Westward. Police say a security guard was patrolling the parking lo when he heard several gun shots. The guard got out of his vehicle to investigate and saw a male walking towards him with a gun.
The 47-year-old man identified himself as a security guard and told the male to drop the weapon. The suspect reportedly ignored the commands and raised the gun towards the security guard.
Fearing for his life, police say the security guard discharged his weapon, striking the suspect one time. The male was transported to Memorial Hermann Southwest Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
The case will be referred to a Harris County grand jury.
