After five months, a grand jury decided to indict the woman who fired that gun on murder charges.
Ables' mother Charlene Aucoin said, "I pray that justice will be served."
Just moments after a grand jury ruling, Charlene and Kyle Aucoin were overcome with emotion, learning the woman who killed their son Jonathan Ables was indicted on murder charges.
These last few months have been a living nightmare," said Ables' stepfather Kyle Aucoin.
The couple's nightmare began in Harris County in September last year. That's when Ables was shot and killed by Crystal Scott. At the time, Scott told deputies she and Ables had been cutting each other off on the road before their cars collided. When they pulled into a gas station, Scott claims she grabbed her gun to shoot Ables after he walked up to her car yelling and beating on her window.
Charlene said, "He had no reason to harm Crystal Scott that day. I just knew that her story was not accurate."
Ables' parents say they've always doubted Scott's story. The woman is licensed to carry a gun and told deputies she feared for her life and shot Ables in self-defense. Scott was never arrested during the investigation. Now five months later, she's indicted on murder charges.
"Ms. Scott has the opportunity to turn herself in or she will be arrested," explained assistant district attorney Kari Allen. "A court date will be set within a couple of days after her either turning herself in or being arrested."
There's no word yet on when Scott may turn herself in. Her attorney calls this grand jury decision a travesty, and added that Scott maintains she had fired her gun in self-defense.
