Gas prices continue to rise

HOUSTON

Just overnight, the prices shot up another 2 to 3 cents. The average price for a gallon of gasoline across the U.S. is up to $3.73 a gallon. In Houston, the average is $3.57, up 3 cents from just yesterday. That's why it's a good idea to shop around when you go to fill up.

Seeing the spike in winter months is pretty unusual. Typically we see higher gas prices around late spring to summertime, when commuters are driving more, going on vacations.

But according to AAA, gas prices have risen for 31 days straight. Some factors include refinery closings and production cuts. Drivers are taking notice and in some cases, rerouting.

It is important it is to shop around. The prices at a gas station along Highway 288 near Holcombe is $3.28 for a gallon of unleaded. Across the street, it's almost 40 cents higher at $3.67.
