A toddler separated from her mother during a human smuggling operation is now in CPS custody in Houston.

Federal authorities say the mother and the child were separated while crossing the border illegally. The mother was taken into custody at the border. Smugglers got away with the child and brought her to Houston. Authorities say they held the girl, and demanded more money for her return.

ICE agents and Homeland Security managed to secure that child's release. They're now working on reuniting the child with her mother.

No word on whether any arrests have been made.
