Both the deputy and the woman he crashed into were sent to the hospital after the overnight accident at the East Belt near North Crosby Highway.
That sergeant, identified 51-year-old Felix Dlouhy, is in critical but stable condition at Memorial Hermann Hospital. He apparently had to be cut out of his vehicle, then transported via Life Flight to Memorial Hermann Hospital just after 2am.
Details have changed since this morning. According to the Harris County Sheriff's Office, Sgt. Dlouhy and other deputies were responding to stabbing call. He was the fourth patrol unit to go through the intersection with lights and sirens on, but apparently the light turned red on him and he blew through, striking the front of a white Suburban.
"It'll be an internal investigation," said HCSO spokesperson Christina Garza. "We have what's called a fleet review process and essentially if it indeed was his fault, then there will be appropriate actions taken internally. Right now, the focus is on his recovery."
The woman driving the white Suburban was 23-year-old Megan Vickers. Initially, HCSO officials told us she had two passengers with her, but that appears not to be the case. She was alone and had just dropped off friends. Her mother told us Vickers was driving home to Crosby after watching "Twilight" at the movie theatre.
Vickers is alert and responsive, and has a broken arm.
As for Sgt. Dlouhy, he is a 30-year veteran of the Harris Co. Sheriff's Office. He has several fractures and is undergoing tests. We're told he is expected to recover.
