HPD: Man shot to death during girlfriend's fight

HOUSTON

Police are still looking for a shooter who killed a man in his 20s.

The fists started to fly around 10:30pm in the parking lot of the Sago Palms apartment complex on Northborough near Rankin.

Officers say two women met up in an apartment parking lot for the sole purpose of a fight, and a crowd of people gathered to watch.

In the middle of the brawl, someone started shooting and struck the boyfriend of one of the fighters.

"From that crowd, one of the girls that was fighting, her boyfriend was shot at some point during the fight," said C.P. Abby with the Houston Police Department. "He was not involved in the fight, however he was standing nearby. According to witnesses it was quite the melee out here."

The man was taken by life flight to Memorial Hermann Hospital with multiple gunshot wounds to the chest. He died in surgery, officials said.

Police say they believe the fight between the two women was the motive, but they have not yet figured out what was going on in the crowd that led to the shooting.

Police say there were plenty of witnesses who left before police arrived. Anyone with information on the shooter is asked to call Crime Stoppers.
