Company recalling portable generators amid fire concerns

HOUSTON

The generators in this recall all come from Costco. The danger is that leaking fuel could cause fires. About 8,600 generators are in the recall, and they were all made by Champion Power Equipment.

There have been eight reports of fires with two reports of property damage.

There are two models in the recall: Model Number 41332 and Model Number 41532.

The generators were sold from December 2011 through July 2012, and cost about $700.

"Bring whatever service slip they send you, take it to a service dealer. They'll take care of any recall they have," said Javier Boliver with University Mower. "And especially when they have a recall, it's going to affect the machine no matter what part of the season, fresh gas -- nothing is going to help it. It's very important, especially the season that we're in."

Consumers should stop using the recalled generators immediately and contact Champion Power Equipment for a free repair kit to be installed by an authorized dealer. The consumer also may return the unit to Costco for a full refund.
