The crash happened just after 11am and blocked at least three center lanes on the West Sam Houston Tollway north between Westheimer and the Briar Forest Toll Plaza.
According to investigators, a motorist was stopped with a flat tire in the EZ Tag lane and several vehicles had to slam on their brakes. Dep. David Dickson, 55, was behind them in a patrol motorcycle. He hit his brakes and then swerved to avoid hitting any cars, but he lost control.
Dickson was taken to Memorial Hermann Hospital by ambulance. He is expected to recover from his injuries.
The driver of the car with a flat tire has not been ticketed. The accident remains under investigation.
