Memorial-area house fire blamed on lightning

It was a rude awakening for a family in the Memorial area this morning when lightning struck their home and started a fire.

It happened at a house on Gawain Lane near Fairlane Drive.

Homeowners awoke to the smell of smoke around 4:15am. The family of three went outside and saw fire trucks in the distance.

According to officials, a fire crew was already in the neighborhood checking on power outages. They quickly extinguished the blaze.

No one was hurt, but there was damage to the home's attic and roof.
