Man hit by SUV while picking up cans

Police are investigating a hit-and-run auto-pedestrian accident in southeast Houston.

It happened around 7:30am on Lockwood in the Second Ward.

According to police, a man in his 40s was collecting cans on the side of the Lockwood when a southbound SUV went up on the curb and struck him.

The SUV fled the scene and was found a short time later on Hoffman near Colfax.

Police have someone in custody, but it's unclear if it is a suspect.

The pedestrian was taken to Ben Taub General Hospital in unknown condition.
