Inmate facing murder charges after DNA match

HOUSTON

Police say on July 8, 2010 a group of males tried to force their way into an apartment in the 15100 block of Ella Blvd. in north Harris County. The victim's roommate said the victim tried to close the door when one of the suspects reached inside the door and fatally shot the 35-year-old victim.

Police took a DNA swab from the door and they say a match was identified as Jean Carlo Ayala Madrid.

On May 18 of this year, investigators say they spoke with an incarcerated Madrid, who was convicted in 2011 on an unrelated burglary of a habitation charge. Police say Madrid admitted to them that he and three other men went to the victim's residence with the purpose of robbing the victim and his roommate, and he admitted to pushing in the apartment door.

Court documents state Madrid told police that one of the men with him had a firearm in his possession during the incident.

Madrid, 20, is charged with capital murder. No bond has been set.
